According to the characters of billet heat transfer, a three-dimensional transient heat transfer model was developed. Based on the results of solving with finite element methods, it was analyzed that three-dimensional temperature field transient response process of 45 # steel under the disturbances of casting speed. The simulation results show the reheat is higher during the continuous casting descend abruptly, and the heat stress and the inner defects increases with the reheat obviously. The current mode of the secondary cooling waters must be improved to decrease the transient reheat aroused by the speed variation abruptly. Comparatively, because of the decrease of transient reheat during casting speed ascending abruptly, the heat exchanges speedy due to the increase of spray waters with the casting speed, it is not necessary to control compensation.
