The Attainable Region (AR) has been used to optimize the structure of steady flow reactors. Horn (1964) first defined the Attainable region. Horn noted the AR represented the full totality of all physically possible reactors. Glasser et al. (1987) developed the geometric properties, as well as proposed a constructive approach for determining such a region. Glasser et al. furthermore defined the necessary conditions for any candidate AR. The AR research has continued in the field of steady flow reactors. More recently Seodigeng (2006) noted the AR analysis method can be used to identify optimal reactor types, flow configurations and key design parameters which will optimise the objective function. This paper attempts to produce an analogy of an AR in batch reactors with the production rate as the defining objective function.
