The Study of Sealing Mechanism of Radial Shaft Seal

In this study, the influence of two important parameters, the width of the waist of seal and the interferences between the shaft and the seal, on static sealing performance of the seal were analysed by the use of finite element model (FEM) of a type of lip seal. And an elastohydrodynamic model was used to simulate the flow of sealing medium in the sealing gap. The difference(△L) between reverse segment and clockwise rotating segment and rotational frequency of the shaft influencing on the reverse pumping were calculated. The result shows that △L and rotational frequency of the shaft have a great influence on dynamic sealing performance of lip seals.
