Offshore wind farms are being built increasingly distant from shore, in deeper water. At the same time the size of wind turbines is increasing, both in rotor diameter and in mass. Turbine requirements place constraints on the support structure natural frequency, implying that the monopile, currently the most favoured support structure type, may not be the most cost effective anymore. Amongst other support concepts the jacket and tripod are being considered as alternatives for deep water.
