Laparoscopic "spays" are probably the most frequently performed procedures in minimally invasive veterinary surgery. Currently these procedures can be performed in cats, and any size of dog but originally they were held aside for medium to large breeddogs because of the difficulty with a small working space. The excellent visualization afforded by laparoscopy and the use of vessel-sealing technology allows for safe efficient procedures which have the benefits of decreased postoperative pain and smaller incisions.
