With the growing acceptance of minimally invasive (MI) traumatology, specific reduction techniques and fixation methods were developed initially for diaphyseal fracture, later expanding to periarticular fractures. When applied to the latter, MI techniques not only benefit fracture environment, it also and perhaps more importantly decreases iatrogenic trauma to the joint. This in turn should promote faster bone healing (preservation of the fracture hematoma and soft tissue envelope), limit osteoarthritis progression and ultimately lead to optimal functional outcome.
