This paper presents the successful implementation of a new drilling optimization process applied during the West Siberia Uvat project. The optimization process produced outstanding results in daily drilling rate, mean rate of penetration (ROP), and overall drilling rate. This paper describes the planning and drilling process used during operations and the record-breaking results. Solutions and technologies were successfully replicated during the project. Drilling optimization combined with new technologies, such as the combined measurement-while-drilling (MWD) system and new generation of downhole drilling motors, significantly reduced drilling time. This paper discusses the collaborative effort that helped provide better understanding of the project's capabilities. It also describes the optimization of advanced technologies, which helped identify and eliminate risks. The practices described in this paper provide significant value to local operators and service companies that perform operations at high drilling rates.
