摘要

Segmental fixed-end-beam (FEB) model is developed to simulate the moving process of vehicles on a highway. The road is considered having two lines. Giving initial positions of the vehicles, the whole process is divided into several periods in which the positions of vehicles take a constant order. Each vehicle has two probable states: preparing to overtake or following another vehicle. Based on a FEB deflection curve, a functional relationship between the speed and time in both overtaking and following processes are obtained with some unknown parameters which represent the behaviors of the drivers. The length of each time period is determined by following criteria: equivalent distance between two vehicles and conditions of overtaking and following processes. The position of a vehicle at any specific time can be calculated by simulation program. As an example, a case of three vehicles is discussed in detail. A multi-vehicle case can also be treated by an extending of this method. Contrary to traditional methods, the proposed method is more devoted to the analysis of the local model and the linkage between these local models in different time periods. It is expected to give a clearer description of vehicle moving processes towards an application of computer in monitoring and controlling traffic flows on highways. Furthermore, it also helps a better understanding of the mechanism of traffic flows on highways institutionally.
