Limonium bicolor is a typical recretohalophyte having salt gland in the epidermisto resist salt stress. Homozygous salt-sensitive mutants are needed to investigatethe genes involved in salt gland development and salt secretion. Therefore, it isessential to know the reproductive traits of L. bicolor. Pollen viability wasmeasured by Alexander's solution in different times after flowering, and thepollen tube growth stained by aniline blue was observed under fluorescencemicroscopy. One plantlet of L. bicolor was isolated to verify self-pollination bygaining seeds or not. The results showed that the optimal pollination time is 9:00a.m. when the pollen activity was the highest and the number of pollen in singleflower was the most. Strong fluorescence of pollen tube was seen underfluorescence microscope, and this means that the self-pollen germinated on thestigma normally with high activity. Seeds were successfully obtained in isolatedplantlet and self-pollination was first verified in L bicolor, thus we can screenhomozygote by self-fertility for two or three generations.
