Induction motor drive based modelling and simulation approach for anchor operation

One of the essential operations performed when the shipping vessel is parked in the middle of the sea or at the deck is Anchoring. This is very critical because the vessel has to be in the stationary position on water and does not drift unnecessarily from its position due to water currents and wind. The conventional anchoring is largely manual involving huge manpower using hydraulic operations for the movement of anchor and chain mounted on the drum of the vessel. Use of a Variable frequency drive with an induction motor methodology is proposed in this paper. This performs the anchor operation with high accuracy and is safe with minimized human effort.
