Today's presentation will give insight into what Union Pacific is doing to improve turnout performance: 1)Introduction to the issue and focus areas that can be improved. 2)Update on the 2012 installation of Clothoid Turnouts presented at the 2013 AREMA conference. 3)Checklist of areas of improvement in future design -What we are currently working to implement. 1.Variability Reduction 1.1In current PSR environment switch out of service issues are extra impactful. 2.Life Cycle Improvement 2.1Additional up-front cost can quickly be justified if it reduces interventions over its life. 3.Maintenance Reduction 3.1Components that are easier to maintain when maintenance is required.
