Maryland Department of Transportation - Maryland Transit Administration's (MDOT MTA) "Johns Hopkins Double Crossover Reconstruction Project" (JH DXO) is located in the eastern terminus of Baltimore Metro line has presented unique challenges to the Agency. The project was undertaken by MTA to reconstruct existing crossovers and adjacent sections near Johns Hopkins Hospital Station, area a critical component of the Baltimore Metro system which was in poor condition and has reached the end of useful life. This project to improve Metro's MOW's ability to maintain the crossover in the future by standardizing the installation and eliminating the need to procure non-standard parts in the future. This paper will provide insights into the key, overall lessons learned, the project overview, the background, the planning, design, procurement and challenges faced in completed reconstruction project within an accelerated 36-day schedule mitigating potential hazards of construction with constraints within the tunnel and Metro trains operations under single tracking.
