Fear of Crime in Urban Environments: A Bibliometric Mapping of the Literature

摘要

It is always complicated to compare the levels of actual crime with the fear of being a victim of a crime yet to happen. It is common to find individuals in urban spaces who have faced little or no crime but are yet fearful, anxious and distressed of being a victim. With the increase in utilization of urban environments, the focus on the discipline of this fear of crime has been increasing. This study reviews the existing literature on the fear of crime in the urban environments with VOSViewer; a bibliometric visualizing software. A three-way approach of (1) Systematic Bibliometric search (2) Scientometric analysis and (3) Comprehensive review is accompanied to explore the current research trends in the domain of fear of crime. A total of 12 research themes in the current literature was identified through this exercise. Among these themes, environmental factors and health and well-being have been widely discussed in the current literature. In Conclusion, possible directions for further research are proposed.
