A radiative transfer model using ray-tracing technique is presented here. A unified formulation of thermal radiation models using transfer factors is presented which is based on the definition of generalized exchange factors between surfaces or volumes that allow one to write all the radiative fluxes using generic expressions. The ray-tracing procedures are formulated so that the generalized exchange factors can be calculated for arbitrary geomettries enclosing both transparent or participating media. The transfer factors, relating the net radiative fluxes to temperatures, can then be calculated with any of the known methods using energy balance. A novel formulation of generalized plating algorithm is presented which is numerically efficient.
