Surface tension induced flow, Marangoni flow, around a vapor bubble is analyzed for various factors affecting the bubble geometry. The results show that there is significant circulation outside of the bubble because of the Marangoni flow, even for very small bubbles. The fluid circulation results in significant heat transfer and a tendency to push the bubble away from the surface. The temperature and pressure variations along the bubble surface should be included in the modified Young-LaPlace equation when calculating the bubble profile. The heat transfer for Marangoni induced flow is found to be much greater than for natural convection suggesting that the heat transfer for nucleate boiling in a micro-gravity environment may be similar to nucleate boiling heat transfer on earth.
