This paper gives an introduction to the technical development and applications of horizontal drilling technologies onland in China since 1990's. It illustrates the distribution of the well locations, the characteristics of hydrocarbon reservoirs, the technical research achievements, the technical capabilities, the completion methods, the economic appraisals, the newly developed tools and instruments for the 160 horizontal wells drilled by CNPC(China National Petroleum Corporation). Some typical application of horizontal wells is also available.
