When the rotor of mautomobile permanent magnet starter motor (APMSM) rotates, the relative position between the stator and rotor changes, which results in the change of electric current in the coil undergoing commutation and the distribution of air gap field. So there is magnetic flux variation in the connutation process. At first, the 2D FEM (finite element method) model is given, and then the effects of commutation on the magnetic flux are studied. Finally, the effects of some factors, such as magnetic pole structure, pole are coefficient, armature current, the angle between the brush and the neutral axis, on the magnetic flux variation are studyied, and some important conclusions are drawn.
