Chemical Hydrophilization Modification of the Surface of Pvdf Hollow Fiber Porous Membrane

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow-fiber membrane has many interesting specific properties, for example, good heat resistance, chemical resistance weatherability and so on. Despite the excellent chemical and physical stability of PVDF, hydrophilicity of PVDF membrane is becoming more and more of interest because of their reduced adsorption tendencies. It is difficult to modify the surface of PVDF membrane due to its chemical resistance until 1983. In that year, It was reported that hydrogen floride was eliminated by aqueous sodium hydroxide solutions, which lead to the formation C=C double bonds in the PVDF chain. Hydroxylated PVDF was prepared by the reaction of dehydrofluorinated PVDF with DMnO_4. According to these references, we have prepared two kinds of sulfonated PVDF hollow fiber proous membranes. The effects of performance and hydrophilicity of the modified PVDF hollow fiber membranes were studied.
