摘要

The U.S. health care system is touted as the best in the world. Yet, highly regarded peer-reviewed journals are replete with studies that show a system riddled with quality gaps. Gaps that range from medical mistakes to widespread failures to use commonly regarded and recommended interventions for patients. The industry's failure to institute common reporting benchmarks makes it difficult to even identify best practitioners. And today, individual employers and employer coalitions are taking positive steps to intervene. This paper shows how those employer coalitions and employers promote education among employees, and collaborate with the industry to implement changes in quality and accountability. Quality barriers and useful interventions to address them are presented.
