ACAD 10-001, Guidelines for Initial Training and Qualification of Licensed Operators requires license candidates need a sound fundamental knowledge to understand the operation of systems and integrated plant operations and to diagnose system/component problems. Like many nuclear utilities, Exelon Nuclear manages this program phase though the implementation of procedure TQ-AA-150, "Operator Training Programs". In years past, this phase was conducted at each station in preparation for the twice-yearly NRC GFE for license candidates (ILT) and as needed based on the start of an Equipment Operator (EOI) class. This involved each station conducting this phase based on their site schedule and often time in parallel with other stations and even their own stations if EOI and ILT where both in session. As part of a company focus on burden reduction, and innovation & technology, Exelon nuclear training determined to pilot a new method of implementing the GF phase of the program. By investing and leveraging in new technology, Exelon conducted a combined GF phase for the BWR technology in preparation for the Fall 2018 NRC GFE using distance learning enabled rooms at each of our site locations throughout the company. This along with an initiative to conduct this phase by combining the ILT and EOI candidates has a reduction in station resource loading.
