When it comes to "On-boarding", or the average New Hire Orientation process, most companies will take their newest member, sit them in front of a TV with a DVD player (or most likely an old VCR) and have them watch hour upon hour of Orientation video. It doesn"t matter the quality of this video material; it is boooring! Not only that, the level of learning is somewhere around 10%! There is no tracking, assessment, or interactivity in this process. What this paper proposes is the utilization of existing video software to capture this information, add assessments to make it SCORM-compliant, and to launch it through an LMS. This will make the best of necessary evil, but will also increase the learning potential for the new employee and, most importantly, add tracking and reporting capability.
