Nodding plays an important role in successful interaction between a human and virtual agent as well as in human-human communication. We compare Japanese speech durations and perceptions of a nodding virtual agent in a cross-cultural setting. The results indicate the importance of cultural adaptation of timing and frequency of virtual agent's nodding.
