The City of Houston is the fourth largest City in the nation with a geographic area of 640 sq. miles. Houston Water within Houston Public Works serves approximately 2.2 million wastewater customers and approximately 4.5 million water customers. To serve this huge customer-base, Houston Water owns, operates, and maintains a large water and wastewater infrastructure system. In 2012, the Houston Water undertook an initiative to enhance the in-house capability of hydraulic modeling, long-range planning, and day-to-day operations. Houston Water in-house planning team uses huge volume of operational and planning data to support improved operations and management of the systems. The in-house planning team also uses state-of-the-art technologies and adopts emerging technologies routinely to continuously improve quality, efficiency and overall productivity of the team. The team is currently developing a single dynamic interactive platform for advanced infrastructure predictive analytics by integrating various operational and planning databases including water and wastewater hydraulic models with Business Intelligence technology and techniques. The platform and its benefits for interactive on-demand operational decision-making and long-range infrastructure planning for wastewater system would be shared in the presentation. The integration of hydraulic model parameters and results and Business Intelligence tools and techniques will be discussed in depth.
