Dose Calculation and Evaluation Modules in the Intelligent Radiotherapy Planning System

Objective: To design and develop our intelligent radiotherapy planning system, DeepIRT, we have designed and implemented a dose calculation based on the Monte Carlo algorithm and dose evaluation modules (DCEM). Materials and methods: The dose calculation module is based on the Monte Carlo Pencil Beam algorithm via ITK. We have also implemented the NTCP and TCP dose evaluation algorithm via ITK. According to reference CT images, Radiotherapy Structure Set(RS) and Radiotherapy Plan(RP) information files, dose calculation is performed on tumor volumes and organs at risk, and then the computed dose images are superimposed on its reference CT images and RS images by VTK and Qt for dose evaluation. In addition, the transparency of images can be adjusted to clearly see the dose distribution. Results and discussion: Our DCEM can compute dose and also can evaluate the computed dose by dosevolume-histograms, equal dose-lines, NTCP and TCP. By comparing the computed results with clinical TPS doses, we show that our DCEM can work.
