New developments in intumescent fire retardants, both in waterbased and epoxy products now make it possible for the different industries to pursue fire safety where before that could not be done. Lightweight coatings of no more than 10 mils to less than one mil thickness provide much needed protection for aircraft. Wholly fire retardant transportation units can now be manufactured with molded epoxy applications. Composite materials made from these epoxies provide new opportunities in construction; new and existing structures can be strengthened and the shipbuilding industry can use these strong and lightweight materials in many places. The opportunities are endless.
