In this paper, an improved adaptive multipole method is presented and its parallel implementation on Transputer Networks is reported. The improvement makes the domain partition and the organization of cubes or boxes become easy, especially for highly non-uniform particle distributions. On the parallel implementation of the algorithm, a level-based scheme of workload balancing is proposed to make the computation work well distributed among the processors, and a pipeline communication method is employed to perform the message passing efficiently between the Transputers. Its use in the device simulation is reported. The results show that the algorithms are efficient and greatly reduce the execution time.
