Rare earth ions have been studied and used for decades in a variety of applications in photonics, such as optical applicators, solid-state laser, biological marker, optical data storage and color displays (1,2). Upconversion of appropriated rare earths can be used to produce the white light through the intensity control of three primary colors emissions: red, green and blue (RGB) (2,3).rnFor 3D volumetric displays based on infrared to visible upconversion luminescence in rare earth doped materials, emission and control of the relative intensities of the three primary red, green and blue (RGB) colors are required. Thus there exists a need for novel solid -state materials capable of producing multicolor visible light (4,5).
