Domestic and corporative electronic security applications make an extensively use of Passive InfraRed (PIR) motion sensors, which operates based on the pyroelectric effect (1). Inside the sensor there is a ceramic-based photodetector, which act as IR radiation to an electric signal transducer. Associated with the photo detector and conditioning circuitry, there is a Fresnel lens array which collects the IR radiation from a warm body that moves inside a monitoring volume (2,3).
