Direct capillary nanofiltration was tested for the removal of 12 selected organic micropollutants such as benzotriazole, carbamazepine, diclofenac, antibiotics, and contrast media, for reclamation of tertiary effluent from a municipal wastewater treatment plant. This process can be regarded as a promising treatment alternative for high quality pretreatment prior to artificial groundwater recharge when combined with powdered activated carbon for enhanced removal of organic compounds. The study was conducted with powdered activated carbon (PAC) doses in the range from 0 to 50 mg/L. The total removal for the selected trace organics ranged from 88 - 99.9% for a PAC dose of 50 mg/L. Without PAC dosage the micropollutant removal dropped to 50 - 80% for small size molecules between 100 and 300 Da.
