Rigorous descriptions of two-dimensional (2D) NMR spectroscopy are oftentimes absent from the chemistry curriculum. This is due in part to the lack of suitable instrumentation required to present these techniques in a laboratory setting. Furthermore, the complex mathematical tools needed to explain the theory behind many of these experiments makes their presentation in undergraduate chemistry courses impractical. In this chapter we show that techniques which can be understood using classical vector models, such as 2D J-resolved (2DJ) experiments, can be used to discuss the main aspects of 2D NMR spectroscopy in detail at the undergraduate level. We also outline the implementation of these experiments in the Anasazi Instruments Eft-series of permanent magnet NMR spectrometers, present typical results obtained for a number of samples, and discuss general guidelines to follow in the selection of additional examples.
