The 8×300 MW Huizhou Pumped Storage (HPS) Power Station,the 2nd pumped storage power station in Guangdong,includes four auxiliary dams and one main dam contain a 35.7 million m3 upper reservoir and a 37 million m3 lower reservoir. Though small in size,embankment,mostly clay-core rockfill type (CCRD) has to be carefully designed and built on poor geological condition. Authors focus on design considerations and construction quality control. The dams are proved to be successful,which may provide an engineering precedent for other similar projects .
