The Rabat marine outfall project is located on the Moroccan coast at the capitalrnRabat. The outfall system discharges the effluent of the nearby waste water pretreatmentrnplant. The marine part of the outfall consist of a 2.0m ID micro tunnel thatrnwas pushed over 800m under the cliffs forming the shore and under the seabed to bernconnected to a 2.0m OD HDPE pipeline of 1.3 km long to reach the offshore diffuserrnsection approx. 2.1 km from the shore.rnThe tunnel was pushed from a 12m diameter construction pit that was later onrnconverted to header tank to ascertain the gravity flow of the effluent. The diffuserrnsection is fitted with 22 diffuser ports at approx. -23m CD.rnThe project comprises the detailed engineering, procurement, construction andrncommissioning of the marine outfall system including the header tank.rnThe water from the WWTP is discharged into the header tank before beingrntransferred through the outfall to the discharge point. Special attention was given tornreduce the quantity of air transported in the pipeline system and scale laboratoryrntests were executed to investigate the effects in the header tank in detail.rnThe design minimum and peak effluent flows from the plant are 1.2 m3/s, 6.0 m3/srnand respectively.
