We show that diesel soot can be recycled as an electrode for the production of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) by the electric arc-discharge method. The electrodes composed of diesel soot are annealed at temperatures more than 600℃.The heat-treated electrodes exhibit a low resisitivity similar to that of ordinary graphite one. Using the heat-treated electrodes, SWNTs are produced by the electric arc-discharge method. SWNTs produced in this way should provide economic benefits and also contribute to a sustainable environment and society.
