Because of recent advances in the inherent technologies, we will soon be ready to take the hydrogen energy message―and products―to the American people. This paper outlines a blueprint for selling renewable hydrogen energy directly to consumers. The process calls for two simultaneous paths of action: bringing hydrogen energy to consumers and bringing consumers to hydrogen energy. Bringing hydrogen energy to consumers means packaging the technology attractively and presenting it to the consumer for easy purchase. This paper provides specific suggestions for accomplishing these tasks. Bringing consumers to hydrogen energy means launching traditional media and educational campaigns involving television, radio, and print advertisements. This requires identifying likely buyers of hydrogen energy products, their motivations for buying, a message to communicate to them, and the most effective media pathways to communicate this message. A "distributing center" spun off of the National Hydrogen Association would be an ideal organization to coordinate the two-pronged commercialization effort described in this paper.
