The terrestrial photovoltaic systems are presently economical for many remote applications where cost of other alternatives such as diesel generator, extending utility power lines etc. In this paper life-cycle cost analysis method have been used to determine economical viability of standalone PV system and diesel generating system. A detail study is carried out on life cycle cost and also the influence of various parameters like discount rate, diesel fuel cost, diesel generator life time, fuel escalation rate, insolation, PV array cost on life-cycle cost of PV system and diesel system.
