Corrosion of iron and steel is a very serious problem since it can cause a lot of damage and financial losses. Our awareness to corrosion has increased and various methods have been developed to prevent it from occurring. Zinc coating is one of the most commonly used metallic coating for steel and among the most popular method used in the world is hot dip galvanizing. Hot dip galvanising is outstanding in corrosion protection for iron and steel and has long been used in various fields. There are two main reasons why the performance of galvanization is outstanding. First, it has 'protective film action' i.e. it produces of film on the surface. Second, it has electro-chemical 'sacrificial action'. It is highly recommended that every part of the steel being used should be galvanized for its protection against corrosion for long life.
