Thiobacillus ferrooxidans can be used for the extraction of metals from Sikkim bulk concentrate and ore. Shake flask leaching experiments were carried out varying pH, pulp density and aqueous compositions. Maximum amounts of copper and zinc extracted were found to be 7.4% and 89% respectively from bulk concentrate containing 9.75% copper and 15.12% zinc. Under similar conditions, 14.7% copper and 58% zinc were extracted from Sikkim ore containing 1.3% copper and 6% zinc.
