摘要

There are many different types of hydrologic measurements - largely of water quality - that are made in support of river-basin management. The maintenance of data collection programs of these measurements is important. Even the collection of data on a small number of relatively easy measurements can provide valuable water resources information to river basin managers. Basic to the collection of these data are the adoption of data collection standards by the collecting organization, operation of quality assurance programs to affirm that the data are collected properly, and support programs to train staff, provide water quality analytical services, instrumentation support, and research to improve data collection. There are many hydrologic services that successfully operate historical and real-time data collection programs whose data and publications are becoming available on the global computer network known as the Internet.
