In this contribution we gave a brief account of a new spectral me hod of configuration interaction type which is aimed at solving numerically the Schroedinger equation associated to the interaction of a two active electron system with an intense ultrashort laser pulse. We then treated the problem of H~- exposed to an ultrashort laser pulse which brings this system above the double ionisation threshold. Despite the fact that single ionisation is the dominant process, shake-up and sequential as well as non-sequential double ionisation are present. We want to stress that this study is a first step towards a detailed study of the interplay beteen these various processes. More quantitative evaluation of their respective probability will be necessary in the future.
