CoPt nanoparticles with the high anisotropy L1_0 ordered phase have been prepared and embedded in C and BN matrices by sputtering from Co_(50)Pt_(50) and matrix targets onto Si substrate using the tandem mode. The as-made films showed a disordered face-centered-cubic structure which is magnetically soft. Ordered CoPt particles were obtained by post-annealing the films at 700℃. Typical particle size obtained was in the range from a few nanometers to 20 nm, which was controlled by adjusting the bilayer thickness and annealing conditions. The microstructure of the granular films at the optimumally annealed state showed a uniform size distribution with an average particle size below 10 nm. The coercivity development in the films was investigated in conjunction with the growth and ordering of the particles.
