摘要

Very smooth surfaces and ultra-low flying heights required in modern magnetic storage devices present challenges and opportunities unparalleled to any other industry. Analytical models and experimental data available for tribology of head-medium interface are plentiful. Understanding of tribology on nanoscale is beginning to emerge. Understanding of microanotribology of ultra smooth surfaces and small components in future head-medium interface is lacking. AFM/FFM studies are expected to play a major role in computer tribology.
