The Air Force, Army, and Navy havernlong-term, proven wind tunnel and CFDrnmodeling and simulation experience that hasrnsupported advanced weapon development andrnintegration. Each uses unique CFD codes tornaugment wind tunnel testing. These techniquesrnhave been extensively validated for externalrnstore separation. During the past three years,rnthe three services, under the auspices of thernDoD High Performance Computing (HPC)rnModernization Program Office have combinedrntheir efforts to establish an Institute for HPCrnApplications to Air Armament (IHAAA). Onernof the first IHAAA tasks undertaken by the storernseparations team was the Store Separation fromrnCavity (SSC) project. The goal of this projectrnwas to determine CFD application bestrnpractices for the separation of stores fromrnweapons bays. The results of this project werernpresented at a special invited session at thernAIAA Annual Meeting in Reno, Nevada, onrnJanuary 7, 2008. This paper summarizes thernresults of this special session.
