Cellulolytic enzyme liginin (CEL) from straw soda pulp was prepared and treated with Manganese peroxidase (MnP) secreted from white rot fungus Phanerochaete sordida YK-624. Molecular weight and its distribution were analyzed and structural changes were traced by determining functional groups, -OCH_3, -COOH, ph-OH, conjugated carbonyl and quinones. Combined with results of element composition, alkali nitrobenzene oxidation, IR and ~1H-NMR spectra, the possible changes of residual lignin in straw pulp were learned. CEL isolated from straw pulp had lower molecular weight, high content of ph-OH and greater extent of condensation. After MnP treatment, molecular weight increased and its distribution showed there were degradation and condensation at same time during MnP treatment. -OCH_3 content decreased and ph-OH increased. Conjugated carbonyl and quinones content increased, which was the main reason of lower brightness gain of straw pulp than that of hardwood pulp after bleaching with MnP. These two groups could also explain the fact of enhancement extractability by alkali and bleachability by peroxide of treated straw pulp by MnP. MQP was reasonable total chlorine free bleaching process for straw pulp.
