Today, materials for interior trim parts of European cars are typically talc filled polypropylene compounds or high crystallinity polypropylene. To achieve high surface quality, the parts are mostly covered with textiles or films for the upper range of vehicles. To save these additional production costs Targor has developed over the last few years a new class of talc filled polypropylene compounds. The result is a surface on the injection moulded parts that has the appearance of a textile. It is, however, manufactured without any additional textile or film. This special effect, the so called multispot or decor effect, comes from a small content of fibers in the compound with specific color, length, diameter and shape. These new materials were developed to have very similar properties to conventional polypropylene compounds, especially with regard to the processing window. The new product series HOSTACOM DEKOR is used today in many European car models for pillar trim and / or window frames. Further development can lead to polypropylene compounds with a colored textile effect.
