UV-CIPP has now started to reach the minds of many Engineers, municipalities and other Government agenciesrnalike, and was specifically chosen for this fire stricken and environmentally sensitive rural area as the one process,rnmost likely to succeed.rnAfter several agencies found issues with some storm pipes that had previously been rehabilitated with a structuralrnliner that had then suffered due to the heat and fires devastating the surrounding areas, Engineers began to questionrnthe tolerance of certain products to see if an additional product was available or if the specifications could be rewrittenrnto include new language reflecting a fireproof standard.rnAfter evaluating several products within the slip lining market mainly using a plastic or polyethylene component, wernfound that there were options to add a fire retardant additive into the manufacturing process, which would complyrnwith an ASTM standard, We then reviewed the various retardants to see if one was available for the standard CIPPrnprocess, but unfortunately we were unable to achieve a reliable end result and as such we switched to the UV-CIPPrnand were delighted to find a very reliable cure and an extremely high fire resistant component that was much higherrnin results than the ASTM called for.rnWe presented our findings to several agencies and the result was an immediate contract for several thousand feet ofrnlarge diameter lining using the UV-CIPP product, which happened to be very challenging as it also involvedrninstallations to some 54” Diameter pipes and as such no-one in the US at the time of this project no one had anyrnprevious record or detail showing how this size of liner was previously accomplished in the USA, and very littlerndetail was known for this large size in Europe where the process had originated.rnIn addition we had also conducted tests using our Spincrete Gunite process, which uses a high strength Cementitiousrnmaterial applied to the inside of large diameter pipes by being pumped as a dry mix to special mixing chamberrnattached to spinning motor that applies the mix to the inside host pipe at around 5000 rpm and can be up to 2” thickrnin one application.rnSanta Barbara California, more than 1700 homes evacuated and over 5400 acres of fire damage 2008, Fire retardantsrnused in the water to help reduce the spreading effects of fires (Figure 1).
