摘要

Freezing was used extensively on the Waste Pollution Abatement Program (WPAP) in Milwaukee in the 1980's. The author worked for contractors on a variety of WPAP projects and gained considerable experience with frozen structures. Drawing upon that experience, and other sources, he has written a paper that addresses some of the specifics of frozen shaft construction. Contained herein is information on drilling, blasting, mechanical cutting, support, insulation, ground heave, muck disposal, concrete placement, and other aspects of construction in frozen ground. It is hoped that this will be of assistance to all those with a current or potential involvement in this unusual process.
