Eightyfour liquidators from the age of 28 to 58 were examined. The control group consisted of 22 men in the age of 28 to 52 years. A certain increase of infringement of lens transparency without typical attributes of radiation cataract is revealed in the experimental group. Electrophysiological investigation (EPI) shows a certain reduction of amplitude of a-wave of macular electroretinogram (ERG) on green stimulus. Amplitude of flicker-ERG 30 Hz, amplitude of main component and lengthening of interpeak time interval of flicker-ERG 10 Hz are revealed. These changes indicate a tendency of decreasing retinal function in paramacular and in a smaller degree in peripheral zones in liquidators. Contrast sensitivity is definitely reduced in liquidators for achromatic, red, green and blue stimuli on all spatial frequencies. Luminous and color sensitivity to stimuli of different color in liquidators is definitely reduced in all central visual fields, but is highest in the paracentral zone. We investigated 14 parameters for activity of free radical processes and antioxidant system in peripheral blood in both groups. Definite increase of production of the reactive oxygen species and disbalance of a glutathione link of antioxidant protection are revealed. Authentic correlation dependences are revealed: strong direct correlation - between a level of superoxide dismutase and amplitude of the first component of flicker-ERG 10 Hz, moderate direct correlation - between a level of glutathione reductase and amplitude of a main component of flicker-ERG 10 Hz, between a level of reduced glutathione and interpeak time interval of flicker-ERG 10 Hz. In consideration of large spontaneous activity of free radical processes in the normal retina the received results indicate a deterioration.
