TLPs are established as a viable concept for water depths up to about 4,000ft. In deeper waters, the weight of traditional tendons and risers imposes an increase in the hull size and thereby becomes less competitivene to other floaters. This paper describes alternative tendon systems (composite and stepped diameter) and composite riser systems, their technical status and economical benefits.
