摘要

Several theoretical, empirical and semi-empirical methods arernavailable in the literature to predict friction resistance, endrnbearing and settlement of drilled shafts in sandy soils. Thisrnstudy aims to assess the applicability and evaluate thernaccuracy of different prediction methods via comparison withrndata from (39) field pile load tests conducted on shafts drilledrnin the Arabian Gulf region. Meyerhof (1976) empiricalrnmethod [1] and Vesic (1975) theoretical method [2] yieldedrnaccurate predictions for the base resistance. Burland (1973)rnapproach [3] over predicted the skin capacities due to thernuncertainty in determining the lateral earth pressure coefficientrnΚ and the soil-pile interaction angle δ. The calculated pilernsettlements predicted by Vesic approach were very close to thernmeasured values.
