The oil and gas industry has long recognized the necessity of periodically revalidating operational riskrnassessments by performing Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), such as Hazard and Operability Studies andrnWhat-if analyses. To be successful in creating a sustainable business in hazardous industries, organizationrnneed to collectively manage risk across their operations in a routine and efficient way. This requires a changernin the dynamic between safety and productivity, where safety is not set against production and risk mitigationrnbecomes an integral part of efficient and effective operations. CCPS has published a book which describesrnthis work process titled Revalidating Process Hazard Analyses. However, there is limited guidance forrnrevalidating supplemental risk analyses. The objectives of performing periodic revalidations are to addressrnthe cumulative changes in risk that occur over time and to continuously improve our understanding of thatrnrisk.
